How to Travel to Hawaii Without a Covid Test

how to travel to hawaii covid test

Presently, Hawaii does not mandate Covid requirements for interisland travel between the islands. However, you should still complete a pre-Covid test and obtain a negative result before flying there.

Hawaii’s entry guidelines follow federal international rules and are identical for both US Citizens and Non-US Citizens alike. Prior to arrival, all travelers must create a Safe Travels Hawaii account and upload valid proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test results before being granted entry.

1. Get Vaccinated

Hawaii has implemented some of the tightest Covid-19 travel restrictions during this pandemic, as an island chain first to impose quarantine and test requirements, helping reduce new cases significantly.

U.S. domestic flights flying directly to Hawaii no longer require passengers to submit to a Covid test or register through Safe Travels Hawaii; however, international travelers still must present both negative results from Covid testing as well as vaccination records to fly there.

Visitors who bring both requirements at the airport are able to bypass Hawaii’s mandatory 14-day quarantine instructions upon arrival and experience a much smoother trip. Many visitors have raved about how this new process has significantly simplified their trip.

2. Get a Negative Test

Hawaii is an unforgettable travel experience, from its spectacular surfing and sandy beaches to ancient Pacific culture and towering volcanoes – fully vaccinated travelers will continue to be permitted entry into the US and can avoid coronavirus quarantine requirements when traveling internationally.

Visitors from overseas who fly into Hawaii with negative test results on file with Safe Travels will be exempt from a five-day quarantine period upon arriving in Hawaii. Similarly, those staying at approved “resort bubble” hotels (see below) may also be exempt if they can provide proof that they remained on property throughout their entire visit and did not leave its premises during that period.

Travelers taking the nasal swab test at home within 72 hours of flying out will also be eligible to bypass quarantine regulations, starting on Oct 15 for American and Hawaiian airlines that depart Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

3. Register with Safe Travels Hawaii

At present, all adults (18 years or older) traveling to Hawaii are required to create an online user account with Safe Travels Hawaii and upload their negative Covid-19 test result before arriving. Doing this will drastically cut down their airport screening and processing time upon arrival.

After Hawaii eliminated its mask requirement in late March and all county restrictions for restaurants, gyms and social gatherings ended last year, there remain state and national covid-19 requirements that maintain public safety for the Aloha State. These include mandatory State of Hawaii travel health forms/questionnaires as well as temperature screenings at airports upon arrival.

4. Get a QR Code

Nonstop or direct flights between the US and Hawaii qualify for an expedited pre-clearance process without needing to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine period. Travelers will simply need to fill out the Safe Travels online form 24 hours before their flight, providing each leg’s QR code via email from Safe Travels program.

Steps are straightforward. Simply take your Covid test 72-hours prior to travel, log into the Safe Travels portal or app (which takes only about 2 minutes), and upload any NEGATIVE test results. In addition, upload high quality images of both your CDC vaccine card, Smart Health Card with vaccine records and VAMS printout/DD Form 2766C forms as part of this submission process.

5. Take Your Test

All travelers 18 or older traveling to Hawaii will need to register with Safe Travels Hawaii before visiting. Registration entails filling out and uploading their health form as well as COVID-19 test results or proof of vaccination.

Once registered, the final step should be taking a negative test before your flight to Hawaii. You should complete this at a reputable testing partner such as LetsGetChecked at least 72 hours prior to departure time for Hawaii.

Testing backlogs that had plagued the US are finally beginning to clear and many of our Trusted Travel Partners are promising a test result in 72 hours – good news for those waiting on negative test results so they can travel to Hawaii!
