If you are traveling to a tropical or warm climate, don’t forget about sunscreen! Even if you are not tanning daily, you should always wear sunscreen every time outside to protect yourself from the sun’s rays.

The U.S. government recommends that children be involved in the protection of the sun with either a child-adult sunscreen combination or an adult-child sunscreen combination.

If you are going out in the cooler months, also wear long pants and a lightweight sweatshirt to cover up your legs if it is hot outside. Long sleeves help prevent overheating!

As with any disease-, risk- and safety-reduced travel, have a plan for whether or not you will be safe enough for safety measures such as wearing sunblock and staying out in the sun for long periods of time.

Safety tips

While the risks associated with travel are decreasing by online and phone apps that warn you of dangerous situations, they remain. Here are some tips to help you reduce your risk of danger while traveling in Malaysia.

Don’t go out at night alone. Groups of up to four people are recommended to meet in a common area before going out and both groups and individuals should know each other well before heading out.

Group tours may require group bookings, so try going on a free trial first to see if you can make it onto an unofficial group tour!

While traveling off-the-beaten-path, stay in safe areas and do not venture into remote areas unless you are comfortable doing so.
