Aging Expectations

Welcome Back

I've missed you!Welcome back!

Where have you been? I’ve been worried about you.

Just kidding. I’m the one who has been away. Have you missed me?

Aah, that’s so sweet. I missed you too!

So, here’s where I’ve been…

Well, really more editing than actual writing but you get the point.

When I started this blog I did it in an effort to write more and get exposure to my writing that would *fingers crossed* lead to me getting a fiction book published.

That was my main goal but blogging is an evil mistress. Once I started blogging, I got caught up in her beguiling ways. I wanted the blog to be better and better, bigger and bigger. I compared myself to every other blog out there, which was a huge…

Surprised? Not too much, huh?

I wrote more but *gulp* not as well as I could have. I wanted sponsors and comments and page views. I wanted everyone to love me (I mean, love my blog).

It was starting to happen, v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w-l-y, but none-the-less happening.

Unfortunately, it didn’t feel right. At a time when I was getting the most page views, the most comments, the most product requests, the most free stuff I was the least motivated.

I believe by getting caught up in the fury of trying to meet these wild blogging expectations, I lost sight of my real goal.

Having a book published.

I did publish a Travel Tip Book (feel free to check it out and buy it here!). But that wasn’t the same. It wasn’t the type of book I really wanted to publish.

So, I took some time off to concentrate on my actual goal. I had my book written already but it needed polishing (read: serious, serious editing). I’m done that process and I’m ready to secure an agent. That’s what I’m working on now.

Yes, I preparing for a myriad of rejection but I’m ready! I’m confident in my book.

However, I do like blogging. It is a good way to continue to improve my writing (as long as I concentrate on the actual writing). This time, I’m keeping my goals close by and my expectations in check.

Thanks for sticking with me!

  1. Welcome back! So exciting to hear of your progress with your book (and sorry the topic didn’t come up when I last saw you). Looking forward to hearing more as you get further with the process. Good luck with your next steps!
