Aging Expectations

Our First Night On the Road

country inn and suitesWith the first day of our road trip coming to a close, we drove to our hotel. The Country Inn and Suites in Wytheville, VA.

After having dinner at the Mill Street Grill in Staunton (which we hated!), we arrived to the hotel late, very late for my daughter.

The check-in process went smoothly and we were quickly in our room. Fantastic.

The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean.

We got up the next morning, got ready and headed downstairs for…

our free breakfast!

You may know this about me, I love a hotel that has free breakfast!

I’m not a big breakfast person. Most days at home, I skip it! I know, I know, most important meal of the day, blah, blah, blah…

Here’s the thing, I listen to my body and my body does not like to be weighed down with lots of food in the morning. I’m out.

Lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks in between…count me in, for any of those!

Free breakfast at a hotel also means one less decision about where to eat, less time getting to a place, etc. All of this equates to sleeping a few minutes later, something which I’m always in for 🙂

The breakfast was no great shakes. If you like waffles, they did have the waffle-maker. If you like powdered eggs, you will love this place. Otherwise, a cup of coffee (or tea for me) may be all you need.

Now here’s what you need to know about the Country Inn and Suites. It’s not a high-end hotel. You should get your expectations in check immediately.

Nothing is going to be fancy. Nothing is going to be high-end. You’re never going to say, “Wow, this is the best ____ I’ve ever experienced.”

You can expect a clean room and friendly service, anything else is a bonus.

If you go into with your expectations aligned, you will be pleased. If not, you will hate every minute of your stay.

Which, when you think about it…isn’t that also true about life.

Enjoy, my friends.
