Aging Expectations

Let’s Stay: Sheraton, Carlsbad

carlsbad sheraton frontWhen we recently visited San Diego, we actually didn’t stay in San Diego.

Don’t be mad.

We actually stayed in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad is about 40 minutes away from San Diego. We picked Carlsbad because of its proximity to Legoland, a great beach, and the hotel. Sheraton is part of one of our rewards program so we took advantage.

Side note: Join those reward programs and use them!

We were renting a car either way, so the 40 minute drive didn’t scare us. The super-mega California highways and their traffic is another story…

Luckily, we didn’t have any problems. We made it to the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Spa  and checked-in with ease.

The rooms were very nice and the staff, always friendly.

Each morning we had breakfast at  Twenty/20. It was good. The prices were what you’d expect to pay at a hotel. We did receive a dining credit so that helped. The manager of the restaurant was super-friendly and down-to-earth. He made each morning memorable.

This hotel is within walking distance to Legoland and has its own separate entrance. A-mazing. It’s truly worth investigating if you are considering a visit to Legoland.

The entrance is on the opposite side of the main entrance. If you go around opening hours, there are no crowds on that side of the park. You can enjoy a few rides with no line what-so-ever and the kids can play on the Hideaways playground without a massive amount of bodies getting in their way!

The pool at the hotel is quite nice as well. One evening, we had friends (who live semi-close) come to the hotel to see us. That night was movie night at the pool. The kids got to watch Ratatouille, while the adults could chat (quietly). It was a great addition to all the amenities.

Here’s what I loved:

  • the service
  • the location

Here’s what I liked:

  • the pool
  • the amenities
  • the food

Here’s what I didn’t love:

  • the parking garage (nothing really wrong with it, just didn’t love it)
  • the ocean view (you could hardly see the water)
  • the construction (they are building a time-share property close by)

Where do you stay when you go to Legoland?
