Aging Expectations

Going to the Races

Summer. Aahhh, summer. Don’t you love it! I do. I do, until I realize I can’t let the kids watch cartoons all day long. I can’t, right? No, you’re right, I can’t. 🙂

I created a little calendar of summer activities. One fun thing to do each day. I’ve gotten a lot of inspiration from around the web!

One of the first days was a cool marble tube race. The idea is you take a pool tube and slice it vertically in half. Then you race two marbles down each side.

We don’t have a pool so we didn’t have any pool tubes lying around. Off to the stores I went. Of course, every time I’m in the store I see these tubes but when I want to buy one – none! I can’t find any. And, forget about marbles…where do you even buy those?

I wasn’t deterred though. I decided we were doing it, so I improvised. We used toilet paper tubes taped together and matchbox cars. Even better. All free!

Taping the tubes was a bit tricky but we managed.

We made two tubes, one straight and one curved. We were able to tape the curved one to the wall. The straight one, we had to hold up ourselves.

It was fun to race them down and see which would be fasted. It was cool to see what a difference it would make hold the straight tube higher and lower.

We had a lot of fun with this idea. It’s great for little ones and older ones. Have the older ones make the tubes or make them more intricate. The little ones will just want to race them down!

Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
