Spring is finally here. The flowers and trees are blooming everywhere. I’m sorry if you have bad allergies – that stinks. But it’s so beautiful! Even through your watery eyes, you must love it.
To further celebrate the season and my absolute joy that we can put away the snow boots (I’m keeping the gloves out, just in case), we decided to visit the Philadelphia’s Academy of Natural Sciences. Not the first place to come to your mind when celebrating Spring?
Here’s why we choose it:
They were having an orchid show! I love orchids. They are so fragile but still hearty. Their colors and variety are amazing.
Unfortunately, I find they are extremely hard to grow. Oh, I can manage the leaves…no problem.
However getting those beautiful buds and then flowers is tough. When they do though, it’s magical.
Don’t think so? Take a look at some of the pictures from the show.
Magical, right? My favorite part was this table where the flowers were competing on fragrance. It was crazy how different and strong the flowers actually smelled. Here is my favorite:
It’s called Coelogyne Ochracea. If anyone knows where I could buy one of those, let me know! And, if anyone knows how I can get it to flower and smell good, fill me in on that too.
Here’s my one and only orchid:
You may remember when we bought it…I wrote about it here. Seems like it’s not doing so well but you do see that stem, right? That means a bud is coming and then a flower. Cross your fingers!
Maybe I’ll enter the show next year…
