The week of love is coming to a close. I’m not sure if you noticed but all of my posts this week were about LOVE. Let me remind you:
Monday: Make Love for Valentine’s Day
Tuesday: 6 Lessons of Love
Wednesday: My Love Affair…
Thursday: Would You?
Today’s is following along with the rest. I wanted to end with something really special.
I was thinking about how and when I knew my husband was the one for me. I asked him when he thought it was.
We discussed it and decided it’s hard to pinpoint.
He thought it was on one of our first trips. We went to Colorado and did this huge hike. Yep, I pretty much thought I was going to die (you can read about it in my book).
His equation looked like this:
high physical stress + thoughts of helicopter rescue +
still loving each other =
long-term, lasting relationship
I thought it was on our hiking trip to Peru, which was longer and at a much higher altitude.
My equation looked like this:
Sleeping outside in frigid weather +
using holes in the ground as our bathroom +
altitude sickness (mine) * not showering for three days =
together FORever, if you still stand to even look at one another
Bottom line – I don’t know when it was and neither does he – except that hiking definitely played a huge role. So, that stinks as a post, right? Who wants to read that drivel?
Instead of that…I’m going to give you our wedding vows. We wrote them ourselves and I think they’re beautiful.
I promise to concentrate on your strengths, not your weaknesses.
I promise to celebrate each day with you from the simplest pleasures
to the most extra moments.
I promise to always treat you with respect and kindness.
I promise to encourage you to be the person you want to be and
do the things that make you happiest.
I promise to never stop laughing with you.
I promise to love you in a way that you will treasure and never forget.
Final thought: If you want to share those sentiments with someone, go on a harrowing hike, it works like a charm.
