Aging Challenge – Week 3

Aging Challenge

Week 3 of our Aging Challenge! If you missed the first two, click here and here.

This week’s challenge has to do with gratitude. You have probably heard how important it is to be grateful in your life. From when you were a small child to Oprah proclaiming it the secret to success, word has gotten around about how important it is to be grateful.

I agree. Being grateful for all your have makes you feel good, and I believe, increases your ability to have more to be grateful for.

To me, it is so important I am trying to get my family to keep individual gratitude journals (I’m pushy that way). But, it was difficult for me to even keep one so I was having trouble asking them to do the same.

This is a problem. Do you feel the same?

Does it seem when you sit down to contemplate what you should appreciate in life, you come back to the same things?

Having a home, the health of my family, good food to eat, warm clothes to wear. These are all amazing things to be grateful for, of course. There are millions of people in the world who do not have a sliver of the things we rely on every day.

Unfortunately, it probably doesn’t feel genuine after the first few days of writing it. If it doesn’t feel genuine then you probably don’t want to do it. And, if you probably don’t want to do it, you definitely don’t do it. Then you miss out on all the benefits of expressing your gratitude!

What to do?

Here’s the challenge…

You need to get real with yourself. You need to write what you really feel grateful for receiving. You know, those things that you feel in the pit of your stomach. Or those things that make you smile (even just a little bit). Things that give you some type of physical reaction.

Pay attention to your body. Listen to your heart.

What gives you a little butterfly feeling? What makes your heart swell? What brings that small tear to your eye?

Those are the things. They should be written down in your gratitude journal. Nobody else has to know!

And don’t worry about the starving children in the world while you’re doing it. What you are grateful for is not going to fill their stomachs.

The benefit of doing this challenge is when you begin to recognize these things you will add more of them into your life. I promise you will be amazed!

Will you take me up on this challenge?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
